The Golden Gates Gallop – A Race with Heart and Heritage
Born from a local resident’s passion for running and raising money for charity, the Golden Gates Gallop first took off in 1986. Now, 38 years later, this beloved community event is still going strong, bringing runners of all abilities together for a fantastic cause.
The Race
Starting beneath the iconic Napoleonic “golden” gates, the 5-mile, two-lap race winds through the breathtaking grounds of Elvaston Castle. Runners will conquer the legendary “gallops,” tackling its rolling ups and downs before crossing the finish line at the buzzing race village at Elvaston Cricket Club. For families and younger runners, the 2-mile fun run offers a single lap of Elvaston Castle’s scenic perimeter path—perfect for soaking in the atmosphere while being part of something special.
More Than Just a Race
Over the years, the event has raised thousands of pounds for Blood Cancer UK and continues to make a meaningful impact. The race village is the perfect place to celebrate post-run, with a lively family-friendly atmosphere, a bar, delicious refreshments, fundraising raffles, and local market stalls.
Whether you’re chasing a personal best or just out to enjoy a run with friends and family, the Golden Gates Gallop is a race day you won’t want to miss.
2025 ENTRY PRICES
Early Bird Entry (before 1st July 2025):
- £16 UKA Affiliated / club runners for 5-mile race
- £18 other runners for 5-mile race
- £5 for 2-mile family fun run
- Please note an online booking fee will be added.
Entries after 1st July 2025:
- £18 UKA Affiliated / club runners for 5-mile race
- £20 other runners for 5-mile race
- £5 for 2-mile family fun run
- Please note an online booking fee will be added.
- £5 for all 2-mile fun runners
- £22 for all 5-mile runners (including booking fee)
- Contactless payment facilities will be available
2025 PRIZES
All participating runners in both the 2-mile family fun run and the 5-mile race will receive a GGG Medal, a running snood from HUUB plus a goody bag kindly donated from local businesses upon completion of their run.
Top 3 Male Prizes for 5-mile race:
- Winner – Trophy plus £50 Derby Runner voucher
- 2nd place – £30 Derby Runner voucher
- 3rd place – £20 Derby Runner voucher
Top 3 Female Prizes for 5-mile race:

The 2-mile Family fun run is “just for fun” but a small trophy will be awarded to the winning under 16 participant
